Week 11 - Heartbeat!

Yesterday was my 11 week appointment with Dr. Paas. Unfortunately Nathan was out of town, but since it was my mom's 60th birthday, I invited her to join me. So this was the first time we heard the heartbeat and it was externally through my belly. Because we had success hearing the heartbeat, I have gone from a 3% chance of miscarriage to less than 1%!

Hearing the heart was an incredible moment. To think that that little baby is in my belly - it made me feel like I can talk to it now! I am also feeling much better these days. The doctor gave me some nausea medicine that has kept my appetite normal. I can eat again!!

Nathan's band, Third Day, was on the Leno show Tuesday, so although he didn't get to hear the baby's heartbeat, he mingled with stars!

Well, enough for now. My next doctor appointment is September 2 and I will be meeting with another Dr. in the practice because Dr. Paas will be out on maternity leave!

From an embryo to a fetus - Week 10

The last few weeks have been quite draining. Slowly but surely, the idea of 'having a baby' is sinking in...

My birthday was last week and it was fascinating to think that my baby just had its first taste of Benihana! Maybe we'll get lucky and Baby E will want yummy Japanese food every birthday too... one can wish?!

I am beginning to feel better, however the last 4 weeks have been very draining. I've been very tired and my appetite simply will not cooperate. One minute I am full, the next split second I am starving and "must eat" or else... But praise God I haven't vomited once. The trick has been going to work a bit late every day. This week, we went from being an embryo to a fetus!

What else... oh! We have decided that we are going to move out of our condo before the baby arrives. As I type, Nathan (bless his pea-pickin' heart) is cleaning out his "office" which will be a
spare bedroom when we list. It will be wonderful to find a house closer to 465 with a big fenced-in backyard - but its going to take a lot of work to get there.

Next Wednesday is my next doctor appointment. We will get to hear the heart beat through Doppler from the outside of my belly! If all goes well and they hear the heart, we will go from a 3% change of miscarriage to <1%.

We are 3 weeks from our second trimester, so keep your prayers coming!

Love you all,
Bonnie, Nathan, Baby E, Niles and Fiona

A New Life

This is what my my son/daughter should look like after 7ish weeks. Its hard to believe when I look at my wife that a little thing like this is just below her belly button. This past month has been wonderful. Its impossible to explain the joy, excitement, and nervousness with words. Some of the most amazing times have been celebrating with our friends and family. Also, Bonnie and I like to read specifically what developed in our baby each day. Its hard to believe that all these things happen in 9 short months. It will also be fun to see what changes occur in Bonnie and me over the same 9 months.

Welcome to our blog!

Welcome to the family!

We found out we were pregnant at 5:30AM on June 8, 2008. I woke up and needed to use the restroom and noticed that my ta-tas were a bit tender. Sure enough, there was a faint second line. I woke Nathan up and said "I think I'm pregnant!?".

Although we were trying, we had decided to wait that month because we had a vacation planned! Its funny what God does when you least expect it...

Well, here we are at 7 1/2 weeks preggers and we just had our first ultrasound on July 2. We were so nervous and excited. If everything went well and the heart beat was strong, we would go from 15% miscarriage to a 3% chance. Sure enough, things were perfect!

Baby Ehman is 10.54mm in length and weighs as much as a bottom eyelid! The heart rate was excellent at a fast 171 bpm! Mommy is doing great too. I've had only a little nausea in the morning and evenings, only when I am hungry - which is often. ;-)

Enjoy our first picture of Baby E and welcome our journey toward February...

Our Love,
Bonnie, Nathan, Niles, Fiona and Baby E
